Hot Yoga At Your Health Club

hot box studio design hot yoga

Are health and fitness centres missing out on a golden opportunity?

I was surprised to find, when making calls yesterday to health and fitness centres, that most were unaware of the latest fitness craze: hot yoga!

I was astonished when I spoke to a fitness club manager of a well-known fitness franchise who said she'd never heard of hot yoga or Bikram before the call.

Poor market awareness, or are hot yoga studio owners keeping it all a secret?

Health and fitness clubs could potentially be losing members to this latest health and well being way of hot yoga.   All they need to do is provide a heated space, hire teachers capable of delivering a hot yoga class or and they can keep maintaining a solid membership base and generate high return on investment.

Hot yoga and Bikram style yoga seem to be very addictive for yogis, however health and fitness clubs are potentially missing a trick if they do not offer this kind of service amongst their fitness classes.

Some businesses and in particular old school health clubs offering the traditional format of yoga classes,  do not seem prepared to move forward with the current and latest fitness trend.  Why leave it so long until it's almost too late jump on the bandwagon of the new health and fitness movement - which is hot yoga right no..

Heating a hot yoga studio is fairly cost-effective and not too expensive even though you have lots of heat being pulled into the studio.  There are ways and means of making this type of class  and this type of offering cost effective, and at Euro Controls UK Ltd, we show our client exactly how much money will be spent based on business rates on electricity to run the heaters for a class (including heat up time).
.
Customers are always surprised to learn that actually running infrared heaters can be a very cheap way of keeping a room warm because of the radiant effect and the fact that the heaters can be run at a lower air temperature compared to a convector system. And what we have found is our clients can charge a premium for the hot yoga classes because it is a very exclusive form of exercise.
If you own a fitness studio or a private health club or even a large leisure facility I would like to ask you the question - why not add hot yoga to your class timetable, when there is such a great return on investment involved?

We will show you how to design and install regulate and maintain an effective hot yoga studio using the existing premise.

The Yoga Show 2012

The Yoga Show was a huge success for Euro Controls UK Ltd, and we have been so busy with site visits and helping design hot yoga studios, we realised we hadn't even put up any pictures of the show!

Stand C5 (our stand!) was buzzing over the three days of exhbiting and we got to say hello to a number of customers enjoying the benefits of infra red heating.

We really tried to get under the skin of our customers whilst at the show and to learn even more about what makes yogis tick.  We talked Bikram, hot yoga, vinyasa, swing yoga, hanging off wall type yoga, and a plethora of yoga terms that we are still getting our heads around.

All in all we had a great time showing off our new heaters and THE HOT BOX, and we are now cracking on with installations, upgrades and refurbishments of yoga studios.

The organisers of the show, Prime Impact, helped to make the day a smooth and successful event, and I'm pretty sure we'll back next year - this time with a bit of a suprise for visitors......watch this space!

Cobham Pilates - Feedback

Just thought I would share the feedback we received from Cobham Pilates Studio Founder and Owner Donna Pourteymour:

"...the heater is fantastic and the installation was great!   It really makes a difference!  Thank you!"

Our engineer installed our latest FRICO infra red heater in the reception area of Cobham Pilates, to keep guests and those working at reception warm and toasty during the winter months.

The radiant heat from the heater warms the surfaces and the people within a 2-3 metre range, making the ideal eco friendly, energy saving heating solution!

Business Books

Just finished skim reading the new business book, REWORK, by Authors Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson (that's harder to write than to pronounce!).

Despite the big mix of reviews on Amazon, I like it, and I like the simplicity of the writing - giving small business owners and entrepreneurs (sorry, I'm meant to start saying 'start-ups' according to Jason and David) lots of alternative routes to becoming a success.

For simpletons like me who get lost on heavy going and long winded strategy and planning books and all that nonsense, and often just need something to get the creative juices flowing, this gem of a book is perfect for a bit of a gee-up, and in all fairness is a bit of a wake up call when it comes to things like what to do when conjuring up new ideas for the market.

It basically says listen to customers when they give you new ideas, nod with a look of gratitude, and then when the meeting is over, completely disregard what they had to say - why?

Distraction.

How many times have you been in a meeting, or at a site visit making the most wonderful of presentations when your opposite number picks apart your idea and offers a shiny new alternative or addition to your product or service? And then run off with that idea thinking of all the possibilities and this is the one cracker if an idea that is going to produce, only to become completely distracted from the main task at hand - generating sales with the products you know sell, and sell well.

Here's what you do.

Smile. Accept their idea. Then completely forget about it and get right back on with being great at what you do. I expect Steve Jobs would be nodding in agreement to this.

There is one exception to this rule however - if hundreds of unhappy customers are telling you, in a red faced king of a way, to change what you're doing, or else.....well. You get the idea.

The chapters are neatly packaged, easy to skim read and give a lot of food for thought. Big thumbs up.

If you are looking for a book that will provoke a bit of creative thinking in you, get it and use it. Then share it.

And what on earth has all of this have to do with infra red heating? Quite simply, nothing, not a sausage. I want to improve and that means learning, refining and innovating - I want to pass on anything interesting I read or research to anyone bored enough to read a blog about infra red heating!

Enjoy.

Read any good business books lately?

8 Steps to Changing or Updating Your Distribution Board

Since installing FRICO infra red heaters in to hot yoga studios, we have come across a few sites that need to upgrage or update their existing power supply to accomodate for the extra power needed to heat the room up to 42C:

Schneider Distribution Board

  1. Contact your electricity provider (British Gas / NPower)
  2. Let them know you are planning on adding extra heaters to the system and you require an upgrade / updated header
  3. They may refer you to a national energy provider, such as UK Power Networks
  4. They willl send you a form to complete (for upgrading existing power supply)
  5. They will send an engineer to complete a site survey for the upgrade the power or to update the "header"
  6. Following the site visit, they will send an engineer to make the changes and upgrade the system
  7. Depending on the location of the power supply to the power distribution board they may need to close part of the road or make special arrangements
  8. Use a local electrician to provide you with a new power distribution board with spare "ways" to connect the new heaters to, along with 10 to 40Amp MCBs on the board

So, to keep things simple, deal with your electricity provider, ask them the procedure to upgrade or updte your existing power suply and then contact us when you are ready to install the infra red heaters.

If you have any further questions on power supply, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details at the top of this blog.

Best wishes!

Problems Heating Your Offices??

Infrared Heating Could Be The Solution!!

Cold working environments
Open-plan office environments are mixed with closed offices and make it difficult to achieve well functioning ventilation, which affects heating. By using Infrared Heaters you are able to heat individual stations and desks in an office environment and in a reception it is possible to create different temperatures in different zones, despite the room temperature being the same throughout the entire premises.

Chill factor from windows
Chill factor is a phenomenon that occurs near most windows. In most buildings the chill factor is relieved using a convector placed under the window. Today, it is becoming more popular to fit windows all the way down to the floor and the convectors must be recessed in the floor to protrude up into the window.
Using a Thermoplus Infrared Heater located on the wall above the windows can make a big difference to the experienced temperature. A smart control system means that the Infrared Heater can be controlled so that it switches on as necessary.

Total heating
Office environments are places where many people need a pleasant working environment. Work is stationary, which places great demands on an even and comfortable indoor temperature meaning creating energy efficient heating becomes even more important.
Today there are good solutions for overall heating using Infrared Heaters. Installing Infrared Heating Cassettes in a suspended ceiling gives almost invisible heating. As Infrared does not have any moving parts it's silent and there's no air movement. The Cassettes can also be easily moved around the suspended ceiling if the premises are redesigned.

Expensive to keep warm all day
Premises used as offices are usually only populated at certain times during the day and not every day of the week. Having the heating on all day and all year can be expensive.
By installing Infrared Heaters and a programmable heating control different temperatures in different zones can be maintained. For example, areas where stationary work is not carried out can maintain a lower temperature, whilst a slightly higher temperature can be maintained in the office environment. A programmable control can also reduce the temperature during the nights, weekends and holidays.

Draught at the entrance
When an unprotected door is opened, cold air flows in at floor level and hot air flows out through the upper section of the door. Before cold air is heated, staff are exposed to drafts and low temperatures.
By installing an Air Curtain inside the entry the indoor climate can be significantly improved. Air curtains must always be equipped with heating if there are staff who work close to the entry so by combining an air curtain with Infrared Heaters you can create a pleasant working and welcoming environment.

Hot Yoga – Why Heat & Humidity?

Heat and humidity allows the body to warm up properly. This in turn reduces the risk of injury and allows you to work more deeply.

If you take into consideration that Hot Yoga originated in India, where they have a much hotter and humid climate, it makes sense that we should prepare our bodies with heat and humidity before stretching.

By combining Heat and Humidity in Hot Yoga studios the following benefits can be gained;

·         Muscles and connective tissues become elastic allowing for greater flexibility with less chance of injury;
·         Encourages sweating which assists the detoxification process;
·         Blood becomes thinner which clears the circulatory system;
·         Helps to multiply T cells which fight infection and in turn keep your immune system functioning properly;
·         Helps to increase your heart rate which improves your cardiovascular system;
·         Burns fat more effectively;
·         Helps you to think clearer;
·         Improves strength because proteins can be utilized more effectively;
·         Speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids;
·         Provides strengthening of willpower, self control and determination.

As you can see, there are many benefits when heat and humidity are introduced into your workout, so why not contact us today for information on our Infrared Heating Panels and Humidifiers.

THE HOT BOX: Purpose Built Hot Yoga & Training Studio

Euro Controls UK Ltd have created THE HOT BOX: The Purpose Built Hot Yoga & Training Studio that has been developed on the back of the increase in demand for hot yoga in America, UK and Europe.

THE HOT BOX comes complete with infra red heating panels to take the room to over 40C plus a a state of the art steam humidifier to keep the humidity levels up, along with specialised mood lighting to create the perfect atmosphere to practice hot yoga, fitness and sports rehabilitation exercises.

THE HOT BOX wood is from Finland - Euro Controls UK Ltd have selected the very finest of wood that is well insulated meaning the heat that is generated within THE HOT BOX stays where it should, without waste.  Clients will be able to practice in the heat without any air flow, noisy fans or stale air - perfect!

THE HOT BOX is suitable for athletes looking to get the edge in terms of pre match training.  Studies have shown how training in hot, humid conditions can improve performance by  up to 8%.

 What does this mean for athletes living / residing in cooler climates?

They can train in the heat before travelling to a tournement in a hot and humid climate.  For example, Andy Murray, World No.3 would be able to acclimatise to the hot weather in Dubai, Australia, America where temperatures will range from 30-40C +, before travelling to the tournement destination giving him the edge before even setting foot on court and practicing before a main event.  His body will have been conditioned in hot humid conditions using the THE HOT BOX, giving him a head start, and giving him the confidence to perform in the hottest environments.

In addition to the added benefits of using THE HOT BOX for heat conditioning, athletes can use the hot environment to stretch and perform rehabilitation exercises and promote quicker healing.  By subjecting the muscles of the body to higher temperatures, the athlete will find a greater range of motion with stretches, thereby flushing the muscles with oxygenated blood and clearing the muscle cells of waste, and preventing the build up of scar tissue.

Studies have shown that muscles tend to tighten up after an injury, therefore, THE HOT BOX could be used as a way to prevent injury in the first place but also to help in the healing and strengthening process needed post injury.

THE HOT BOX is set to take the hot yoga, sports rehab and sports training sector by storm and will be the must have item for yogis and athletes alike.
