The Yoga Show 2012

The Yoga Show was a huge success for Euro Controls UK Ltd, and we have been so busy with site visits and helping design hot yoga studios, we realised we hadn't even put up any pictures of the show!

Stand C5 (our stand!) was buzzing over the three days of exhbiting and we got to say hello to a number of customers enjoying the benefits of infra red heating.

We really tried to get under the skin of our customers whilst at the show and to learn even more about what makes yogis tick.  We talked Bikram, hot yoga, vinyasa, swing yoga, hanging off wall type yoga, and a plethora of yoga terms that we are still getting our heads around.

All in all we had a great time showing off our new heaters and THE HOT BOX, and we are now cracking on with installations, upgrades and refurbishments of yoga studios.

The organisers of the show, Prime Impact, helped to make the day a smooth and successful event, and I'm pretty sure we'll back next year - this time with a bit of a suprise for visitors......watch this space!

Cobham Pilates - Feedback

Just thought I would share the feedback we received from Cobham Pilates Studio Founder and Owner Donna Pourteymour:

"...the heater is fantastic and the installation was great!   It really makes a difference!  Thank you!"

Our engineer installed our latest FRICO infra red heater in the reception area of Cobham Pilates, to keep guests and those working at reception warm and toasty during the winter months.

The radiant heat from the heater warms the surfaces and the people within a 2-3 metre range, making the ideal eco friendly, energy saving heating solution!

Business Books

Just finished skim reading the new business book, REWORK, by Authors Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson (that's harder to write than to pronounce!).

Despite the big mix of reviews on Amazon, I like it, and I like the simplicity of the writing - giving small business owners and entrepreneurs (sorry, I'm meant to start saying 'start-ups' according to Jason and David) lots of alternative routes to becoming a success.

For simpletons like me who get lost on heavy going and long winded strategy and planning books and all that nonsense, and often just need something to get the creative juices flowing, this gem of a book is perfect for a bit of a gee-up, and in all fairness is a bit of a wake up call when it comes to things like what to do when conjuring up new ideas for the market.

It basically says listen to customers when they give you new ideas, nod with a look of gratitude, and then when the meeting is over, completely disregard what they had to say - why?

Distraction.

How many times have you been in a meeting, or at a site visit making the most wonderful of presentations when your opposite number picks apart your idea and offers a shiny new alternative or addition to your product or service? And then run off with that idea thinking of all the possibilities and this is the one cracker if an idea that is going to produce, only to become completely distracted from the main task at hand - generating sales with the products you know sell, and sell well.

Here's what you do.

Smile. Accept their idea. Then completely forget about it and get right back on with being great at what you do. I expect Steve Jobs would be nodding in agreement to this.

There is one exception to this rule however - if hundreds of unhappy customers are telling you, in a red faced king of a way, to change what you're doing, or else.....well. You get the idea.

The chapters are neatly packaged, easy to skim read and give a lot of food for thought. Big thumbs up.

If you are looking for a book that will provoke a bit of creative thinking in you, get it and use it. Then share it.

And what on earth has all of this have to do with infra red heating? Quite simply, nothing, not a sausage. I want to improve and that means learning, refining and innovating - I want to pass on anything interesting I read or research to anyone bored enough to read a blog about infra red heating!

Enjoy.

Read any good business books lately?

8 Steps to Changing or Updating Your Distribution Board

Since installing FRICO infra red heaters in to hot yoga studios, we have come across a few sites that need to upgrage or update their existing power supply to accomodate for the extra power needed to heat the room up to 42C:

Schneider Distribution Board

  1. Contact your electricity provider (British Gas / NPower)
  2. Let them know you are planning on adding extra heaters to the system and you require an upgrade / updated header
  3. They may refer you to a national energy provider, such as UK Power Networks
  4. They willl send you a form to complete (for upgrading existing power supply)
  5. They will send an engineer to complete a site survey for the upgrade the power or to update the "header"
  6. Following the site visit, they will send an engineer to make the changes and upgrade the system
  7. Depending on the location of the power supply to the power distribution board they may need to close part of the road or make special arrangements
  8. Use a local electrician to provide you with a new power distribution board with spare "ways" to connect the new heaters to, along with 10 to 40Amp MCBs on the board

So, to keep things simple, deal with your electricity provider, ask them the procedure to upgrade or updte your existing power suply and then contact us when you are ready to install the infra red heaters.

If you have any further questions on power supply, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details at the top of this blog.

Best wishes!

Problems Heating Your Offices??

Infrared Heating Could Be The Solution!!

Cold working environments
Open-plan office environments are mixed with closed offices and make it difficult to achieve well functioning ventilation, which affects heating. By using Infrared Heaters you are able to heat individual stations and desks in an office environment and in a reception it is possible to create different temperatures in different zones, despite the room temperature being the same throughout the entire premises.

Chill factor from windows
Chill factor is a phenomenon that occurs near most windows. In most buildings the chill factor is relieved using a convector placed under the window. Today, it is becoming more popular to fit windows all the way down to the floor and the convectors must be recessed in the floor to protrude up into the window.
Using a Thermoplus Infrared Heater located on the wall above the windows can make a big difference to the experienced temperature. A smart control system means that the Infrared Heater can be controlled so that it switches on as necessary.

Total heating
Office environments are places where many people need a pleasant working environment. Work is stationary, which places great demands on an even and comfortable indoor temperature meaning creating energy efficient heating becomes even more important.
Today there are good solutions for overall heating using Infrared Heaters. Installing Infrared Heating Cassettes in a suspended ceiling gives almost invisible heating. As Infrared does not have any moving parts it's silent and there's no air movement. The Cassettes can also be easily moved around the suspended ceiling if the premises are redesigned.

Expensive to keep warm all day
Premises used as offices are usually only populated at certain times during the day and not every day of the week. Having the heating on all day and all year can be expensive.
By installing Infrared Heaters and a programmable heating control different temperatures in different zones can be maintained. For example, areas where stationary work is not carried out can maintain a lower temperature, whilst a slightly higher temperature can be maintained in the office environment. A programmable control can also reduce the temperature during the nights, weekends and holidays.

Draught at the entrance
When an unprotected door is opened, cold air flows in at floor level and hot air flows out through the upper section of the door. Before cold air is heated, staff are exposed to drafts and low temperatures.
By installing an Air Curtain inside the entry the indoor climate can be significantly improved. Air curtains must always be equipped with heating if there are staff who work close to the entry so by combining an air curtain with Infrared Heaters you can create a pleasant working and welcoming environment.
